NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft, launched on August 20, 1977, has been traveling through space for nearly 50 years. Along with its twin, Voyager 1, the probes have journeyed billions of miles from Earth, capturing remarkable images of the solar system. Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited all four outer gas giants: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Originally intended for a four-year mission, the probes have exceeded expectations and remain operational, making them NASA's longest-lived mission at a cost of over $865 million.
