Save the Children has reported that at least 180 children have been orphaned in the Democratic Republic of Congo's latest Ebola outbreak, which was declared on 15 May. This equates to nearly two children losing both parents or primary caregivers every day over the first 100 days of the outbreak. Thousands more have lost one parent or caregiver, increasing their vulnerability to abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and psychological distress. The outbreak, centered in Ituri province, has become the deadliest in the country's history, with children bearing severe and lasting consequences.
