The Northern Senators Forum has called for the immediate establishment and operation of State Police in Nigeria. In a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar'Adua, the forum urged the Federal Government, through the Presidential Working Group chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, along with State Governors and State Houses of Assembly, to give prompt attention to the State Police Bill currently awaiting ratification. The senators argued that decentralised policing is critical to improving response times and intelligence gathering at the grassroots. They expressed concern over the loss of innocent lives to insurgents due to bureaucratic delays in security reforms.
