The International Republican Institute (IRI) has warned that vote-buying, insecurity, and declining public trust in INEC pose significant threats to the credibility of Nigeria's 2027 general elections. The warning was contained in a statement from IRI's Pre-Election Assessment Mission, which deployed experts to Nigeria from August 17 to 21, 2026. The mission recommended that INEC prosecute vote buyers and stress-test the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
