Ndalayi, also known as buri mairi, a traditional royal delicacy of the Kanem-Borno Empire, is facing extinction in Maiduguri. The dish, crafted exclusively for kings and queens, is losing ground due to modernity, changing dietary habits, and the expensive, labor-intensive preparation process. Inside the Shehu of Borno's palace, efforts are being made to preserve this emblem of Kanuri cultural identity, but its survival remains uncertain.
