Imo State performed its first robotic surgery on a patient diagnosed with prostate cancer at the Imo State Robotic and Oncology Centre in Owerri. The surgery was led by UK-based Consultant Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgeon Professor Kingsley Ekwueme, who noted that the project is a Public Private Partnership with the state government. The lead surgeon stated that the robot, equipped with artificial intelligence, can magnify tissues 10 times larger and ensures no cuts, blood loss, or nerve damage. The procedure was witnessed by elated stakeholders in the state.
