The Eye Bank for Restoring Sight in Nigeria has revealed that approximately 3.64 million Nigerians, about 1.5 per cent of the population, are living with corneal blindness. The organisation also disclosed that over 200 patients are on its waiting list for corneal transplants, underscoring the need for increased donation and awareness. During the unveiling of Nollywood actress Joke Silva as brand ambassador, the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr Festus Odunayo Oshoba, noted that the Eye Bank has facilitated more than 95 successful transplants, including 19 involving children. The organisation is working to develop a national register for reliable data on donors.
