Diners continue to use these apps even though they are trying to save money elsewhere. This trend has surprised DoorDash CEO Tony Xu, as overall retail sales have declined, including a 0.6% drop in US retail sales in July. The resilience of food delivery spending suggests it has become a sticky habit for many consumers.
