Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have dismantled a kidnappers' roadblock, neutralized one suspected bandit, and arrested two suspected kidnappers in separate operations across Benue State. The Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday. The operations were based on credible intelligence about criminal activities in the state. On August 19, 2026, troops acted on intelligence regarding a suspected bandit kingpin operating an illegal checkpoint along the Jortar–Atume axis, leading to a firefight in which one suspect was neutralized.
