PDP rejects Ebonyi council polls, threatens legal action

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has rejected the local government elections held on Saturday, describing the exercise as a 'mono-party polls' conducted in defiance of court judgments. The party's State Publicity Secretary, Darlington Onwe, made the position known at a press conference in Abakaliki on Sunday. Onwe argued that the exercise was unconstitutional and incapable of conferring legitimacy on any candidate, citing sections of the 1999 Constitution that guarantee democratically elected local government councils and the sovereignty of the people.
