Weah calls for independent judiciary to safeguard democracy

Former Liberian President George Opong Weah has urged legal practitioners to remain neutral in the administration of justice, describing an independent judiciary as crucial to safeguarding democracy. Weah spoke at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He emphasized the role of the Bar and Bench in protecting citizens' rights and freedoms, warning that threats to democracy can also come from weakened judicial institutions. His remarks come ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
