The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) Insurance Index has depreciated by 8.65 percent year-to-date as of August 21, 2026, making it the worst-performing segment on the bourse and the only major sectoral index in negative territory. This performance contrasts sharply with other indices, such as the NGX Banking Index, which gained 63.18 percent, and the Oil & Gas Index, which rose 85.76 percent. The decline marks a reversal of a positive two-year trend, as the insurance index delivered a return of 107.74 percent in 2024 and maintained a strong rally in 2025, outperforming the all-share index.
