The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to provide five million Nigerian households with access to clean cooking energy through the National Grassroots LPG Penetration Programme (NGLPP) by 2030. The programme, launched in Bayelsa State on July 28, 2026, was inaugurated in Akwa Ibom State by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, marking the second activation in the nationwide rollout under the Decade of Gas Initiative. Speaking at the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre in Uyo, Ekpo explained that the programme aims to transition households from traditional cooking fuels like firewood, charcoal, and kerosene to cleaner and safer LPG. The initiative is set to cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, targeting one million households initially.
