The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a new maritime route used by international drug syndicates to smuggle synthetic cannabis into Nigeria, following the seizure of 1.49 tonnes of 'Loud' worth over N4.4 billion at the Apapa and Lekki ports in Lagos. The consignments, shipped from Thailand, represent the agency's first recorded seizure of illicit drugs from that country via the maritime corridor. This operation was part of nationwide efforts between August 15 and 22, which also led to the destruction of 10 tonnes of cannabis and the interception of cocaine concealed in food items. Additionally, a 101-year-old great-grandmother was arrested for selling cannabis.
