Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has warned that restoring fuel subsidy would reverse economic gains made since its removal by President Bola Tinubu's administration. He argued that the subsidy would recreate fiscal pressures, distortions, fuel scarcity, and arbitrage incentives, citing Nigeria's $10 billion subsidy expenditure in 2022. Idris defended the government's reforms and urged Nigerians to consider long-term benefits.
