Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the 2027 presidential campaign of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has defended Atiku's proposal to restore petrol subsidy if elected, stating it aims to make fuel affordable and is distinct from previous subsidy regimes. Okonkwo made the remarks on Channels Television's Sunday Politics, responding to criticism from President Bola Tinubu. Atiku had announced his intention to reintroduce the subsidy, sparking controversy given his earlier stance on subsidy removal. The former vice-president also accused the current administration of not accounting for funds saved from subsidy removal.
