Gunmen attacked herders around Gero community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday evening, killing 14 cattle and rustling 29 others. The herding community described the attack as unprovoked, as the gunmen struck while herders were tending to their cattle. The attack occurred amid rising tension between herding and farming communities in parts of Jos South, Bassa, Barikin Ladi, and Mangu LGAs. Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), confirmed the incident to journalists on Sunday, noting it was one of several attacks and killings involving members, who have lost cattle worth millions of naira and several herders' lives within months.
