Former President of Liberia, George Weah, warned that democracy in Africa could be undermined if judicial institutions are weakened and unable to perform their duties effectively. He delivered the keynote address at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday. Weah emphasized the crucial role of the bar and the bench in safeguarding citizens' rights and freedoms, and charged lawyers and judges to remain impartial in the administration of justice. He stated that threats to democracy come not only from coups or leaders refusing to hand over power, but also from weakened judicial institutions, and stressed that democracy does not end on election day.
