The Nigerian Army has begun efforts to rescue persons abducted by terrorists in Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger. An operational report said troops had been deployed following the abduction of several residents on Friday. Dekara, located along the Nigeria-Benin Republic border, is on the fringes of Kainji Lake National Park and is regarded as a difficult-to-reach terrain used as a mobility corridor by terrorists. The Army had earlier directed deployment to establish a blocking position ahead of a planned clearance operation in the park, with newly inducted troops being prepared for the operation.
