On May 15, 2026, armed Boko Haram terrorists invaded Mussa Central Primary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting over 40 schoolchildren, including a toddler. A similar incident occurred on June 29, 2026, in Lassa community, where over 30 students of a technical college were also abducted. The Borno State Government subsequently ordered the closure of the two affected schools and relocated remaining students to safer schools in Uba town. After the children had spent 100 days in captivity, parents of the abducted children protested in Askira-Uba and later met with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri.
