Edo Assembly Rejects Speaker Agbebaku’s Resignation, Impeaches Him

The Edo State House of Assembly has rejected the resignation of former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and declared him impeached, eight days after he announced his resignation. Agbebaku, who represents Owan West Constituency, resigned on August 17, 2026, amid alleged threats of impeachment. The House subsequently suspended him and removed other principal officers, electing Hon. Yekini Idiaye as the new Speaker. During a resumed sitting, Speaker Idiaye stated that the impeachment notice was signed by 17 of the 24 members.
