The COMESA Monetary Institute (CMI) convened experts from central banks across the COMESA region in Nairobi from 17 to 19 August 2026 to review progress under the first stage of the COMESA Macroeconomic Convergence Programme (CMEC). The meeting assessed achievements and challenges in achieving macroeconomic convergence targets. Dr. Lucas Njoroge, Director of CMI, highlighted the extension of Stage I to December 2027 and the approval of the COMESA Macroeconomic Convergence Peer Review Mechanism to enhance regional surveillance.
