The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA)/United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) have signed an addendum to the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding. The signing took place on August 21, 2026, at ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, following a strategic dialogue on enhancing cooperation on regional disarmament, peace, and security. The addendum aims to strengthen collaboration on disarmament, arms control, non-proliferation, and conflict prevention in the ECOWAS region.
