Amazon is developing a new generation of highly automated warehouses under the internal name Project Tetromino, aiming to fully automate delivery stations. These stations are the final facilities in the shipping process, where packages are sorted and staged for drivers. According to an internal planning document, Amazon planned to invest $103 million in an initial pilot in 2028, with total investment projected to exceed $530 million by 2029. The company states that automation is intended to improve safety and efficiency for workers.
