Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dahir Muhammad Hashim, disclosed that Kano city requires 750 million liters of potable water daily, a figure based on 2022 data. He noted that the current demand exceeds the supply capacity of the state's treatment plants. The three major waterworks at Challawa, Tamburawa, and Watari are designed to produce 445 million liters at full capacity, leaving a daily shortfall of over 300 million liters. Hashim lamented that upon assuming office, most plants were operating below 20 percent capacity, with Tamburawa producing no water at all.
