The Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are investigating allegations that some senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have been collaborating with foreign interests in ways that could undermine national security. A security source, speaking anonymously, said the agencies intercepted 'highly disturbing' communications between NFF officials and foreign nationals. The source clarified that the investigation is not primarily linked to the N17 billion intervention fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024, as financial impropriety would fall under the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's jurisdiction.
