From Borno to Borgu: A new frontier of insurgency

Gunmen believed to be linked to Lakurawa or the Mahmuda group attacked four communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State on Friday, 21 August 2026. In Dekara, they abducted more than sixty people from a mosque during Jumu'at prayers. A video later circulated showing the captives, with an unseen narrator inviting relatives to identify them. This incident follows a similar attack in Kwara State in February 2026.
