The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) are investigating intelligence reports alleging that some top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are collaborating with foreign interests to undermine Nigeria's national security. A security source disclosed that the agencies intercepted 'highly disturbing' communications between NFF officials and foreign nationals. The source clarified that the investigation goes beyond financial matters, as allegations of financial impropriety fall under the purview of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The probe is separate from the N17 billion intervention fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 for payment of outstanding salaries and bonuses to national team players and officials.
