A new study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology suggests that being assertive in meetings can help employees get noticed and advance into leadership roles. Researchers followed 471 employees at a Fortune 100 company and found that confidently expressing opinions signals engagement and motivation. MIT researcher Jackson Lu, who studied leadership advancement, recommends practicing speaking up at least once more than usual in meetings. This behavior can make employees appear more confident and passionate, traits that leaders often notice.
