Distance learning now national necessity not alternative – Osinbajo

Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that Nigeria must adopt Open and Distance Learning (ODL) to address the growing demand for university education. Speaking at the University of Lagos Distance Learning Institute's Fifth International Colloquium, he noted that over 2.2 million young Nigerians seek university admission annually, while the current system admits only about 25 percent. He projected that Nigeria's population could approach 250 million by 2036, with annual applicants potentially exceeding three million, making conventional universities insufficient to meet the demand.
