Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has faced criticism over a N300 million personal pledge towards a proposed university by the Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS). The pledge was announced during a JIBWIS seminar in Jos, where the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs also made a personal donation. Critics questioned the propriety of such a large donation to a religious institution amid concerns over education and healthcare in Yobe. However, the state government clarified that the pledge was a personal donation by the governor and not from state funds.
