South Africa's Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs has expressed concern over the financial impact of unforeseen expenditure by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) following anti-immigration protests and increased enforcement. The DHA incurred approximately R341 million in costs, with a request for R292 million in unforeseen expenditure submitted to National Treasury. Committee Chairperson Mosa Chabane warned that without reimbursement guarantees, the department may have to absorb costs from its baseline, affecting service delivery.
