Guinea-Bissau has selected the Gabú and Oio regions as pilot areas for the implementation of the ECOWAS Regional Community Health Policy. The decision was made at a three-day National Engagement Workshop held in Bissau from August 19 to 21, 2026, organized by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) in collaboration with Guinea-Bissau's Ministry of Public Health. The initiative aims to bring essential healthcare services closer to underserved and hard-to-reach communities. Community health workers, national institutions, local authorities, and communities are expected to play clearly defined roles in the implementation.
