Lagos retirees protest pension arrears, Govt says N168bn paid

Pensioners in Lagos State have protested against alleged outstanding pension arrears dating back more than 16 years. The protesters, under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, demanded immediate payment of their accumulated entitlements. The state government, through LASPEC, said it has paid N168 billion to 48,000 retirees, but the pensioners insist the backlog remains. They have threatened a larger demonstration if their grievances are not addressed.
