Diphtheria kills 50 children in Kano

An outbreak of diphtheria in Kano State has resulted in the deaths of about 50 children, according to a lawmaker. Ibrahim Muhammad, representing Rano Constituency, raised the alarm during a plenary session, noting that many others are hospitalized. The outbreak is particularly severe in Ridin and Sabuwar Kaura communities. Emergency measures, including medication and health workers, have been initiated, but additional support is needed. Muhammad appealed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Commissioner for Health for further assistance. Another lawmaker, Usman Abubakar Tasiu, confirmed the outbreak has spread to Kiru Constituency communities.
