The number of preschools nationwide has increased significantly, according to Ms. Abeba Habtom, head of preschool services at the Ministry of Education. She reported that preschools grew from 828 to 2,004 during the 2025/2026 academic year, and enrolment rose from about 65,000 to 128,500. Capacity-building training programs for preschool teachers are being organized across all regions, and teaching materials are being prepared in all languages. Ms. Abeba emphasized the importance of preschool in developing children's self-confidence, creativity, and communication skills.
