The Federal Government has announced plans to review all concessioned roads in Nigeria to ensure that contract terms are met and to ease the suffering of road users. This follows widespread complaints about the poor state of roads, particularly the Benin-Asaba highway, where motorists have reportedly spent up to four days in traffic. The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, during an on-the-spot assessment, criticised the concession company BAECC for its poor handling of the project, stating that the company had 'failed woefully' and lacked the technical knowledge to execute the job. He has called for a stakeholders' meeting to review the situation and promised government intervention.
