The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has released new GLOBOCAN 2024 estimates showing 20.6 million new cancer cases and 9.8 million deaths worldwide in 2024. The figures indicate that about one in five people will develop cancer in their lifetime. Without improvements in prevention and treatment, new cases are projected to reach 34 million annually by 2050, with deaths rising to 17.5 million. IARC’s Freddie Bray called for urgent action, noting that one in nine men and one in 13 women die from cancer.
