The Abia State Government has commenced payment of outstanding N61.8 billion gratuities owed to retired state and local government workers. Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced this during a post-State Executive Council briefing in Umuahia, describing it as part of the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare. The liability, inherited from the past 24 years, is being addressed through a structured process, with a breakdown showing N7.2 billion from 2001-2010, N43.6 billion from 2011 to May 2023, and N10.9 billion from May 2023 to date.
