Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has reaffirmed his promise to restore petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027, contradicting his spokesperson Paul Ibe who earlier suggested the intervention would be phased out. In a statement on his X handle, Atiku insisted his position on subsidy 'has not changed and will not change,' and that he would restore targeted subsidy to ease economic hardship. He argued that Nigeria is rich enough to support its citizens and that the strength of an economy should be measured by citizens' purchasing power, not government revenue.
