The United States has paused immigrant visa applications as the Trump administration tightens screening and limits entry for applicants considered likely to depend on government assistance. A State Department official confirmed the pause, which began at American embassies and consulates in early August. Visa appointments have been adjusted to accommodate in-depth training for consular officers. Applicants with scheduled interviews were informed by email that their appointments were cancelled.
