The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has clarified that certain immigrants with approved visas are exempt from paying the USCIS Immigrant Fee before obtaining their Green Cards. The fee is generally required for new lawful permanent residents and covers processing and card production. Five categories of foreigners are currently exempt, including children entering through adoption, Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants, certain Afghan nationals, returning lawful permanent residents, and K non-immigrants.
