United Airlines announced 10 new international routes on Tuesday, eight of which will be served exclusively by the carrier among US airlines. Five of the routes will be operated by the Airbus A321XLR, a single-aisle aircraft with extended range that enables long-haul flights to destinations that may not require a wide-body plane. The new routes include San Francisco to Okinawa, Japan; Washington Dulles to Toulouse, France; Newark to Luxembourg; Newark to Marseille, France; and Newark to Ibiza, Spain. CEO Scott Kirby stated the airline aims to become the US flag carrier in the minds of Americans.
