Takutaha Maulud: Kano declares Sept 1 work-free day

The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as a work-free day to enable residents to celebrate Takutaha, an annual traditional and religious procession. The declaration was made in Circular No. 7/2026, signed by Abba A. Danguguwa, Permanent Secretary of the Establishment Directorate, on behalf of the Head of Service. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the directive, which was communicated to senior government officials. The government described Takutaha as a significant occasion with deep spiritual and cultural meaning, urging civil servants to use the day for prayers and reflection, while essential services will continue to operate.
