The United Nations and its humanitarian partners are supporting government-led efforts to strengthen Ebola preparedness in Burundi. Although no confirmed Ebola cases have been reported in the country, it remains at higher risk due to its proximity to affected areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and cross-border population movements. Preparedness measures include enhanced surveillance at points of entry, deployment of thermal scanners, and plans to install thermo-scan devices at Bujumbura international airport. Additionally, risk communication and community engagement have been expanded, with training for 60 community health workers and media professionals, distribution of nearly 30,000 Ebola prevention posters in Kirundi, Swahili, and French, and training for 32 healthcare providers on Ebola case management and patient care.
