The Federal Government has presented the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company (BAECC) with three options for the continuation of construction on the Benin-Asaba Highway, following concerns over the road's deteriorating condition. This development came a day after the government apologized to Nigerians for the hardship faced by motorists on the highway. The 125-kilometre road was concessioned to BAECC in 2025, with completion expected in September 2027. Minister of Works David Umahi stated that three reputable contractors have been assembled to take over the construction if BAECC agrees to the proposed terms, with the first option being the right of first refusal to operate and toll the road after completion.
