Health ministers at the Seventy-sixth session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa in Addis Ababa have endorsed a new strategy for sustainable health financing over the next decade. The strategy, titled 'Financing the Future of Health in the WHO African Region (2026–2035)', aims to help countries build more resilient and self-reliant health systems. It responds to the challenge that around 385 million people in the African region are pushed into poverty each year due to out-of-pocket health expenditures, while governments face stagnating public spending, increasing debt, and declining external assistance. The strategy promotes stronger domestic resource mobilization to ensure access to quality health services without financial hardship.
