African ministers of health meeting at the Seventy-sixth session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa in Addis Ababa have endorsed a new regional strategy to give every child the best possible start in life. The strategy addresses the fact that by 2050, two out of every five children born globally will be African, yet up to two thirds of children in sub-Saharan Africa may never reach their full developmental potential. The first years of life are critical for lifelong health, learning, and well-being, but millions of children lack good nutrition, quality health services, responsive caregiving, and opportunities for play and early learning. The strategy aims to improve these conditions across the region.
