A former Senator representing Ekiti North, Ayo Arise, has criticized the proposal by ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to restore Nigeria's fuel subsidy regime if elected in 2027. Arise warned that such a move would drag the country back into an era of corruption and economic waste. He argued that the removal of fuel subsidy has strengthened the financial capacity of both federal and state governments, enabling them to meet salary obligations and execute development projects. Arise insisted that the benefits of the subsidy removal should be assessed before any reversal.
