Presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Dr. Gbenga Hashim-Olawepo, has said petrol could eventually sell for as low as N200 per litre without reducing government revenue or FAAC allocations. He argued that Nigeria can achieve cheaper energy while strengthening public finances by reducing production costs and stabilising the exchange rate. Hashim-Olawepo set a starting sustainable price of N605 per litre under an Accord administration, with a target exchange rate of N525-N700 to the dollar. He made these remarks in a statement, emphasising that the approach would avoid an opaque subsidy regime.
